Stage 2 ‘Q-School’ FINAL PREP

I had an email from Will Roebuck yesterday evening to say he’d completed his preparation in Spain and ‘can’t wait’ for the competition to start. That’s a great attitude and allows him to have a ‘quiet’ day today with just a bit of short-game and putting practise. His mind is already in the right place.

Preparation is a major part of winning tournaments – just ask Tiger. He is the ultimate planner, trying to cover every option. In Will’s case, he has been playing well and practising with the sole purpose of doing what is necessary to make it to Final Qualifying for The European Tour.

Stage 2 is played over 4 rounds with no cut so Will knows that even if he has a poor first round, he has 54 more holes to post a successful score. The point is, there is no need for him to panic. I always maintain that any score under par is a satisfactory first round result. It gives a platform on which to build. My golfers are taught to aim to improve round by round.

During the course of his short professional career, Will Roebuck has started well and also struggled in the first round. In both cases he has successfully completed the tournaments giving him the confidence to be there for the long-haul. He will need all his patience in Spain as all the other competitors are also looking to advance to Final ‘Q’.

So we wish Will good luck. If he swings easily, takes one shot at a time, remains focussed and sticks to his game plan he has a great chance of making it to Final Qualifying next week

Happy golfing –  Roger
